7 Off the Beaten Path Must Do's for New Pittsburghers

how to pittsburgh December 3, 2024

Featured above, the "Gambling Room" at the Bayernhof Museum, just north of the City limits.

If you're a new Pittsburgher, someone has probably told you to check out the Strip District, and the Warhol, and a Steelers game. They're right. You should! But what about these?  Here are a few deeper cuts where we love to send both new Pittsburghers and holiday visitors!

  1. Rodef Shalom’s biblical botanical garden (Shadyside)
  2. Bayernhof Museum (just north of Sharpsburg/Aspinwall)
  3. Bicycle Heaven  https://www.bicycleheaven.org/. (Northside)
  4. If you can get into one of the telescope nights at the Allegheny Observatory, it’s absolutely wonderful
  5. Check out any production by Quantum Theater - it's always site specific, and their seasons usually mix new work and re-imaginings of old favorites - Moon for the Misbegotten just closed at Longvue Country Club and was gorgeous.
  6. Carrie Furnace is a must do - just wow.
  7. The Alcosan annual open house. For someone as nerdily obsessed with infrastructure as we are, it's an absolute delight. Get the 2025 date on your calendar now!
